HENRY MONINGER (of John and Magdalena) born at Funkstown, Maryland, March 15, 1789. First married Susanna Hass, Daughter of John Hass. She was born May 27, 1791 and died June 29, 1841. He then married Sarah Huges, widow of Thomas Pettit. She was born 1809 and died in 1885, buried in Lone Pine Cemetery; he united with the Christian Church at Lone Pine Pennsylvania.
Henry Moninger, no doubt was during his lifetime the most energetic person of the name and a very prominet figure in the affairs of the community in which he lived; by occupation a farmer and drover, determined in his manners and customs and an able dealer; the records of the transfer of property show that he purchased and improved and later sold a total of more than 3,000 acres of land in Washington County Pennsylvania; in 1864 he purchased and moved to one ot the finest farms in Broole County, W. VA. where he died in September 26 of the same years; buried at Vankirks; in 1892 the body was moved to Washington Cemetery.

JOHN MONIGER (John and Magdalena) born March 27, 1791; married, September 28, 1814, Catherine Dague, born June 7, 1792; they located on a farm i Amwell Township; and after the death of John Moninger Sr. they moved to and pruchased the home farm, where they continued to reside until death; John died May 30, 1872, and Catherine died August 19, 1876; Their bodies buried in the Lutheran Cemetery near Glyde, Pennsylvania.

ELIZABETH MONINGER (of John and Magdalena) married Jacob Harshman, he being a brother of Daniel Harshman, who married Magdalena Moninger, the couple early in life located at Lordstrom, Ohio, which is mear the city of Warren, a district where the ancestors of Jacob and Andrew Harshmann were among the pioneer settlers, and the family is yet widely know the clan being organized and hold reunions annually; Elizabeth, wife of Jacob Harshmann was small of stature.

34. JOHN MONINGER (of George) married and first located near Chesstnut Ridge in Amwell Township, where his children were born. He taught school during the winter season, and was an official in the Presbyterian Church, about 1860 he moved to the state of Nebraska, where his wife died and was buried, later he lost the sight of his eyes and returned to Washington County, Penna. Here he died soon after; buried in the Luthern Cemetery near Glyde.

39. JOHN MONINGER (of Henry) was born May 3, 1810; never married; about 1847 he acquired by purchase from his father a large tract of land at what is known as "Moninger", a suburb of Houston, Penna. Here with his younger sister Elizabeth (never married) they established a home for not only themselves, but for others of their near relatives who had been left homeless; the brother and sister remained here until death; they were honored members of the Hill Presbyterian Church; John died June 15, 1887; Elizabeth died June 14, 1892; buried in Washington Cemetery. |

40. GEORGE W. MONINGER (of Henry) was born in West Bethlehem Township, the then residence of the family, on January 18, 1812; first with his father, but early in life on his own account he devoted his time to the purchase of live stock, which he drove to eastern markets, this work he continued until the advent of the railroad; he was widely known by the name of "Drover George". For some years he taught in the public schools of Amwell Township; in 1865 he was untied in marriage with Sidney (Horn) Swart, widow of Amos Swart, who lost his life in the Civil War; he was very successful as a farmer and stock grower; the family was active members of the Lone Pine Christian Church; he died July 25, 1888; his wife died October 1912; buried in the Lone Pine Cemetery. Married first Ann, daughter of Hugh and Jane Miller of near Martinsburg, Ohio and located in Butler County, Penna; where she died August 25, 1858; buried in Washington Cemetery; he then sold his farm in Butler County and returned to Ohio, where he was then unite in marriage with Margaret McKibben of near Mount Vernon; he then purchased a large farm in Knox County; here the second wife died and he again was united in marriage with Nacy Beck, of near Loudonville, Ohio; he was eminently successful as a farmer and live stock grower; he died at his Knox County home in 1877, and was buried Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

JACKSON MONINGER (of Henry) Born July 11, 1818, married Charlotte Coulson, daughter of a prominent family of Washington County, Penna. and located on a farm near Athens, Ohio, where he died April 1, 1850. The widow and children remained on this farm for many years thereafter, later moved to a farm near Mount Vernon, Ohio. Buried at Athens, Ohio.

44. SUSANNA MONINGER (of Henry) Born October 2, 1820 and in 1842 was united in marriage with A. J. Chester, he being a memver of a prominent family of Washington County; she died on December 20, 1845, and was buried at Vankirks, later the body was moved to the MOninger lot in the Washington Cemetery; after the death of Susanna, the husband married Sarah Totten and to this union was born Demas, Henry M., J. Wesley, Sample, Francis M. and Anna.
Children 154. John, Born February 8, 1843, was member Co. D. 140th P. V. I. served during entire period of war, was in every engagement in which his company took part, never wounded, although had five holes made in his clothing from enemy's bullets. After war he returned to Amwell Township where he devoted his time to agriculture pursuits; he was Justice Of Peace for many years, buried in Lone Pine Cemetery. 155. JACOB MONINGER (of Henry) was born January 14, 1822 in Amwell Township and early in life became an active dealer in farm lands and live stock, this work continued his entire life; on February 10, 1846 he was united in marriage with Mary Vance, she died July 2, 1836, and on January 29, 1858 he married Elizabeth Fife. She died April 1 1893; buried in Washington Cemetery.

58. DEMAS W. MONINGER (of John) born March 3, 1833; first taught school in Amwell Township, after marriage to Mary V. Ringland of Washington County, the couple moved to Marshall County, Iowa, where he developed a large stock farm and became famous as a breeder and exhibiter of Short Horn Cattle; he bred and exhibited a steer which won the sweepstakes prize at the Inernational Fat Stock Show in Chicago IL.

Here he remained until after the death of his wife; then he made his home with his children.

228. HERBERT H. MONINGER (of Onias) born April 29, 1876 on the home farm in Amwell Township, where he spent his boyhood days; later graduated from Bethany, also from Yale College. December 26, 1900 he married Grace Cooper, a native of Washington County, also a graduate of Bethany. His first charge was at Tiffin, Ohio, and then 3 years with the Christian Church of Stubenville, Ohio; during his pastorate there nearly 500 were added to the membership of the church, and the Bible School at that time the largest in Ohio. He resigned his pastorate there to accept a position as Sunday School editor for the Standard Publishing Company of Cincinnati, Ohio; in this position he filled the place of two men in the office, wrote many books, helped to Bible Study, and his teacher training work "Training For Service" is known and widely used all over the world. His field work in the Bible School took him all over the United States and parts of Canada. In 1910 he personally onducted a party to the Holy Lands. April 29 29, 1911 while on his way to Nelsonville, Ohio, he took very ill and a serious operation followed from which he partly regained his strength, but later complications caused his death June 21, 1911.

His first charge was at Tiffin, Ohio, and then 3 years with the Christian Church at Stubenville, Ohio; during his pastorate there nearly 500 were added to the membership of the church, and the Bible School at that time the largest in Ohio, He resigned his pastorate there to accept a position as Sunday School editor for the Standard Publishing Company of Cincinnati, Ohio; in this position he filled the place of two men in the office, wrote many books, helped the Bible Stucy, and his teacher training work "Training for Service" is knownand widely used all over the world. His field work in the Bible School took him all over the United States and parts of Canada. In 1910 he personally conducted a party to the Holy Lands. April 29, 1911 while on his way to Nelsonville, Ohio, he took very ill and a serious operation followed from which he partly regained his strength, but later complications caused his death June 21, 1911.
